On a recent trip to Shanghai, I found the prettiest hand-made slip ons at the water village called Zhu Jia Jiao. Lovely little place and extremely reasonable too. It's too bad their sizes are limited but they do take orders for custom made pieces. So if you've got about two weeks in the city, and you've got a big-ish size (i wear a size 9), you could go for a custom made pair. Cost - 100-150 CNY = 700-1050 INR, depending on how well you can bargain, and there is a huge margin. (Things aren't too expensive here since it's part of the village...)
PS shopping tip for those traveling to Shanghai - Try the FengShine Market Mall on 580, Nanjing Road (The shopping street). Its called the fake market, and you can get some great stuff and there are some exquisite high-street boutiques all along Nanjing road. For those of you looking at high-end brands, they're in a long line up of malls from Plaza 66 to the Nanjing Road Shopping Mall. But do remember, Shangai in terms of shopping is not cheap.
Happy shopping! :)
